‘MSC Oscar’ tops the list as the largest container vessel in the world

The first Tripple-E container
vessel of Maersk line named “Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller” delivered in June 2013, is
no longer considered as the largest container vessel in the world. A new record
has been created by the Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. (MSC), as they are
going to launch the world’s largest new-built container vessel ‘MSC Oscar’
having container carrying capacity of 19244 TEUS, in their fleet by January,
2015. This exciting news was declared by the Company on December 16, 2014. It
is an epoch-making event in the history of world maritime transportation
industry.
MSC is the world’s
second-largest shipping line in terms of container vessel capacity. It has been
operating with a fleet strength of 471 container vessels with an intake
capacity of 2,435,000 TEUS (As of end December 2014). This is an Italian
Company with it’s operational activities controlled from Geneva. As a world leader
in the global container shipping, it has access to integrated network of rail,
road and sea transport resources for rendering services to the customer across
the world.
‘MSC Oscar’, has been built
by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineeing , South Korea and classed by the
Classification Society-‘ DNV GL’. The ship is registered in Panama and will be
inducted into ‘Albatross service’ after her inauguration during January 2015.
